Membrane Electrolysis
DESCRIPTION

Membrane electrolysis (ME) is a membrane process driven by an electrolytic potential. MEMBRANE ELECTROLYSISIt is used for the removal of metallic impurities from plating, anodizing, etching, stripping, and other metal finishing solutions. This technology uses an ion exchange membrane and an electrical potential applied across the membrane. The membranes are ionpermeable and selective, permitting ions of a given electrical charge to pass through. Cation exchange membranes allow only cations, such as copper or aluminum to pass through, while anion exchange membranes allow only anions, such as sulfates or chromates to pass through.

FEATURES

     ▪ Maintains process solutions for
       consistent performance and quality
     ▪ Maintains solutions for constant production rates
     ▪ Accurate, high-quality etching and chrome conversion coating results
     ▪ Reduces reject rate (reduces reprocessing)
     ▪ Reduces wastewater treatment and waste disposal
     ▪ Reduces fresh process solution usage

APPLICATIONS

Exergy’s ME technology offers significant benefits to industries using plating, anodizing, etching, stripping, and other metal finishing solutions. Typical applications include:

     ▪ Purification and regeneration of chromium plating baths
     ▪ Recycling and maintenance of chrome conversion coating solutions
     ▪ Reactivation and metal removal from deoxidizing solutions

SYSTEM COMPONENTS

The ME system is a modular, automated system mounted on a stainless steel skid with wheels. The system includes high-quality, heavy-duty components:

Process Equipment
